My name is Ruben Efio Pozo and I am married to Martha. We have 2 children and there names are: Martha Sofia, who is 6 years old, and Austin Ruben, who will soon be 3 years old. I was born in the city of Chiclayo, and was raised in a totally Catholic home. I grew up believing that salvation was earned by our works instead of our faith in Jesus Christ. I also grew up thinking I could worship God how I wanted and when I wanted. As a young person I started to hang out with friends that got me doing things a person ought not to do. I started being lazy in my studies at school and began filling my time with more of the things this world had to offer. There were many times I hardly came hime at night. One day my father was so disgusted at the way I was living that he threw me out of the house, and my older sister was the only person that would take me in and give me a place to sleep. My sister was married and they both attended church faithfully, and it was during this time that I went to church for the first time. While I was at church I remember seeing a verse hanging on the wall that said, "For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved." It was very hard for me to accept what this verse said, because I thought there had to be something else a person would have to do to be worthy of going to heaven. Some time later in April of 1988, I got to the point where I could not continue living the same life that I had been living, and made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour, while attending the First Baptist Church of Chiclayo. In 1992, while still attending the same church, God called me into full time Christian service. In 1994 I went to the Trujillo Baptist College and studied for 3 years. I graduated in 1996 and in 1998 I got married and headed off to Arequipa to finish preparing ourselves for the ministry. In 1999, we left Arequipa and headed back to Chiclayo as missionaries sent out of the Hunter Baptist Church. We left a work established in Chiclayo with an average attendance of 100 people, and then headed to Lima to begin working in the province of Callao, which has a population of 400,000 people. We started this work from the ground up and we currently have an average of 55 people. There are 4 Sunday School classes, 3 weekly services, and a youth meeting every week. We have a weekly visitation program and ask you to keep us in your prayers as we strive to reach the world with the gospel. |
