The Independence Day of Peru is celebrated
on the 28th of July to commemorate the anniversary of Peru's
independence from Spanish rule in the year of 1824. The Peruvian
independence was first declared in 1821by the Argentine liberator,
Jose de San Martin but absolute independence was gained only in
1824. On the Independence Day of Peru, every citizen pays tribute
to the great patriots like Tupic Amaru, Pumacahua, Aguilar, and
Micaela Bastidas, for all the sacrifices they made in order to
re-instate the country's indepencence.
Interestingly the Peruvian independence is celebrated for two days
with both days declared National holidays. Independence Day
celebrations usually involve a lot of fun and merriment. The
festivities in Peru begin with the president's speech to the
nation, followed by hoisting of the flag, military parades,
bullfights and fireworks. Besides, there are also exibitions and
fairs held on the Peruvian Independence Day, where national
products and indigenous foods and crafts are displayed and sold. In
various parts of Peru, the day is also celebrated with agricultural
and livestock fairs. The day following the independence is mostly
enjoyed by families who get together for some fun and many others
even travel to the country's interiors. Most Peruvians look
forward to the two-day Independence Day celebrations every year in
order to enjoy themselves.
